Single Airbed

The single airbed which can also be known as an air mattress is usually made from one of three materials. These are usually that of plastic or textile reinforced plastic or that of rubber. A great advantage of having a single airbed is that when the single airbed is deflated it can just be simply rolled up which is great for storage. They can also be just folded as well. So with all these attributes the airbed can be stored very easily or transported. Thus the ideal uses for the single airbed are that of going on camping trips or that of using as temporary beds in the home for when guests come to visit you and stay overnight.

The single airbed is inflated orally by blowing into the valve or you can use a manual foot powered air pump. And if you are of the easy and convenient mould then you can use an electric air pump. We shall go into a little more detail into the air pump later on in this site.

A single airbed designed solely for the use of camping and backpacking are sometimes called sleeping pads. These are lightweight and are of a reduced size for more convenient use. They can have a layer of foam insulation underneath the air chambers. Air chambers of a better quality are constructed of vulcanized rubber and then covered in either a canvass or that of polyurethane. You will find that airbeds with the better quality of air chambers are used mainly in the home on a permanent basis. Once the air chambers are covered in canvas or polyurethane they are then installed into a cloth shell or a tic.

A permanent airbed looks almost identical to a normal conventional bed with the exception being that of the airbed having 1 or 2 hoses coming out of the head of the bed. These hoses are of course for the use of inflating the bed by your chosen means. The hoses are also used to let out air as required to monitor and adjust the firmness or softness of the single airbed for the particular person that will be sleeping on it.

Coleman 4D Universal Quick Pump

This pump is designed for inflating and deflating the single airbed and other inflatable items. This pump is battery operated and requires four D cell batteries. It works with Coleman double lock and quick valves, Boston valves and standard wide opening valves. It is compatible with all Coleman air beds as well as most other inflatable products. But take note that this pump does NOT work with stem and needle valves such as found in basketballs or bike tyres. The side valve on the pump is for inflating whilst the top valve is used for deflating.

Some government safety agencies however have questioned the useage of the airbed for infants and hence given warnings.The reason for this is because the airbed can maybe at times be too soft and suffocate smaller children in particular those under the age of 8 months. The main concern is that of the infant suffocating within the folds of the airbed or getting themselves trapped between the mattress and the bed base.

In recent years manufacturers have been producing larger and more elaborate air beds for use in the home for guest use or as permanent beds in the bedroom. The sizes of these air beds range from the single airbed to the much larger twin or king size. Most permanent air beds can use conventional standard sized bed sheets and bedding, which are very easy to purchase from appropriate outlets. Raised temporary or guest beds are raised off the ground to keep users away from the floor and do offer a more traditional mattress experience. Even though raised air beds are off the ground they are still not designed for full time use because the base of the bed is still an air chamber and not that of a solid foundation. But for non permanent use one of the best options is the single airbed.

So now you have purchased your single airbed. If the single airbed that you have actually purchased does not come with an inbuilt air pump, then you need to purchase one of these as well. They can operate both on electricity or battery power. Depending upon your requirements and use of the air pump, they come in all shapes, sizes and power outputs.
