Having personally camped many times in The Lake District, we here at campingandoutdoorequipment feel it’s only appropriate that we include a thorough and comprehensive write up to add to this website.
The majority of camping sites in the Lake District are of a high standard with many of them being fully equipped. So providing the weather plays ball, you are ensured of comfort and cleanliness which are often very high on people’s wish lists. The Lake District is without a doubt one of the jewels of the world and within it’s 30 mile radius lies an astonishing number of lakes and fells. For the historians amongst you, you can revel in many Celtic monuments, Roman ruins, stately homes and monastic ruins. As well as all the beautiful natural scenery to take in there are also huge numbers of outdoor activities and pursuits to get yourself involved in.
The most popular and perhaps the best bases in The Lake District are Keswick, Ambleside, Lake Windermere and Ullswater. These bases are located near most of the activities which include camping, hill walking, canoeing and kayaking, bird watching and fishing. It is the result of geographical upheavals over millions of years that gives the Lake District it’s natural beauties and it is especially in the summer months that the Lakes are most crowded.
The Lake District
The Lake District is a mountainous region in North West England. Because of it’s raw beauty, fells, mountains and lakes it has become one of the most popular camping locations in the United Kingdom. And to anyone who has already camped there, this is no surprise.
The most visited area of the Lake District is the Lake District National Park which is situated centrally. This park is the largest National Park in England and Wales and lies entirely within the county of Cumbria. Actually all land in England that is higher than 3000 feet above sea level lies within the Lake District National Park. This includes the highest mountain in England which is Scafell Pike. Despite the fact that the Lake District is named as it is, only Bassenthwaite Lake has lake in it’s name. All the rest are called meres, waters, tams or reservoirs.
