Camping and Outdoor Equipment
Wiley X Sunglasses
Wiley X Lenses
Wiley X sunglasses are renowned throughout the world, in particular for their impact resistant qualities. Each pair of sunglasses easily meets the ANSI impact resistant standards with most models actually exceeding the standard. Such is the strength and impact resistant qualities of Wiley X sunglasses that they can even withstand military ballistic testing. So when it comes to adding a pair of sunglasses to your camping and outdoor equipment items then you need to at least give high consideration to the Wiley X range. If they are strong enough to withstand military testing they are certainly more than capable of surviving a camping trip and any outdoor activities that you choose to pursue.
What makes the Wiley x lenses so strong and desirable is the way in which they are made. Each lens is comprised of 8 layers making them extremely high tech and top performing in their class offering the wearer unparallel visual acuity.
We shall give you a little more info on the constituents of the lenses. The base of the lens is comprised of 2 layers of selenite polycarbonate material. It is this particular material that is responsible for the shatterproof reliability that Wiley x sunglasses are renowned for. In order to eliminate distortion and giving optical clarity from all angles these polycarbonate layers are actually cut out of larger lens blanks. This polycarbonate material is actually ten times more resistant to impact than that of glass or resin lenses easily exceeding all ANSI safety impact resistance awards.
In polarized lens options these polycarbonate layers are sandwiched on either side of a polarized film. The polarized film that Wiley x use in their sunglasses is that of a filter 8 polarized film. The filter 8 provides 100% UV protection and a super 99.9% polarization. It is these light filtering properties which boost colour and contrast, giving the wearer optimal visual acuity.
When it comes to selecting a new pair of sunglasses to wear out when you are camping or are actively involved in outdoor pursuits, one brand that is well worth deep consideration is that of Wiley x. Their sunglasses are highly sought after being very stylish with high quality attributes.
The company Wiley x was formed around 25 years ago to provide the U.S Military Special Forces with shatterproof eye gear. They began making lenses using selenite polycarbonate and in tests this material was even able to withstand a 12 gauge shotgun blast from just 10 yards. Added to this amazing strength was a sleek design and proprietary technology, giving sunglasses that are admired internationally. It was in 1987 that Wiley x introduced their sunglasses to the general public and they became an instant success then as they still are today.

Examples Of Wiley x Sunglasses
For scratch resistance to their lenses Wiley x place a layer of T shell coating on each side of the polycarbonate lens layer. The T shell is a flexible hard coat that gives additional protection to the lens as well as extending it’s life. Cracking is minimised with this shell ensuring clear vision at all times.
And that is not where the construction of a Wiley X lens ends. On either side of the T shell coating is another layer which is referred to as slick. This is a hydrophobic layer that has the capabilities of repelling ice and water which means that the wearer will always have clear vision no matter the weather conditions. And because they repel water so easily, the removal of stains and dirt is a simple process with a cleaning cloth. That is if the dirt manages to remain on the lens.
The final layer on any Wiley x lens is the AR coating. This coating is applied to the underside of the lens and eliminates any back lit glare. This is a useful optical filter that helps reduce eye strain and eye fatigue.
So any Wiley x lens has 8 layers to it which are in the order of:
1- Slick coat
2- T shell
3- Selenite polycarbonate lenses
4- Filter 8 polarized film
5- Selenite polycarbonate lenses
6- T shell
7- Slick coat
8- Violet 4 AR coating

Visually they will give the wearer an excellent all round view of the surroundings. A feature with these sunglasses is the T-Peg docking system which locks a head strap that is elastic to the sides of the user’s temples to make sure that the frames are secure in wear. This makes them ideal for camping and in particular for wearing when you are participating in any outdoor or sporting pursuits. There is also symmetrical venting with these sunglasses so cool air is allowed to enter the frames naturally. Perfect on a hot strenuous day.
So if you require o pair of sunglasses that will fit your face well and work well in a sporty outdoor lifestyle these are well worth a second look. Not only do they look very stylish they are also extremely tough and can quite easily cope with a beating. So activities such as biking, kayaking and paragliding are well within the compass of these sunglasses. Though this is not rare with any glasses and a quick scrub with a clean cloth soon rectified the matter.
